There won’t be any sweeps in the first round of the WMBL playoffs. After the games on Thursday night, all four of the best-of-five series, including the Weyburn Beavers-Moose Jaw Miller Express series, are set at 2-1.

The Regina Red Sox needed 10 innings to pull ahead of the Swift Current 57’s in their game, and series, as they won 10-9 at home.

Matt DeNeau and Brooks Stotler went yard for the Red Sox in the win. DeNeau finished the game responsible with five RBI for Regina.

Swift Current’s offence was led by Keil Krumwiede, who had a home run and three RBI, and Myles Miller, who chipped in three RBI of his own.

57’s starting pitcher Jacob Campen lasted just 3 ⅔ innings, before being replaced by Aaron Pugh. Campen allowed seven runs, striking out just one. It would be reliever Tommy Steier, though, who would be tagged for the loss, as he gave up the game-winning run.

Adam De La Cruz was the winning pitcher for the Red Sox. He struck out the lone batter he faced in the top of the tenth to earn the win.

Game four in the series will be played in Regina.

Down 2-0 heading into last night’s game, the Okotoks Dawgs rallied to stay alive against the Edmonton Prospects with an 11-3 victory in Edmonton.

Everything seemed to go right for Okotoks, as they were up 11-1 heading into the ninth inning. They were led offensively by William Hollis, Nate DeChaine, and Abdiel Alicea who had two RBI each. The Dawgs also got triples from Hollis and Ryan Humeniuk, as well as Collin Ridout, who had two three-baggers.

The Prospects weren’t able to muster much in the way of offence, as they could only get five hits throughout the game, unable to solve the pitching of the Dawgs.

Brock Townsend earned the win on the mound for Okotoks, striking out three over 6 ⅔ innings, and allowing just one run. Josh Sieglitz from Edmonton was credited with the loss, after giving up six run, four earned, over four innings.

The series resumes Friday night in Edmonton.
