A perfect week for the Weyburn Red Wings has led to some league-wide recognition. After going 3–0 this past week and taking down each of their Viterra division rivals, the Wings have seemingly turned the corner.

For their efforts, both Eric Soar and Ben Laidlaw were recognized in the SJHL Players of the Week as runner-ups. No Red Wing has earned the honour yet this season or even been named a runner-up until this week.

After posting a goal and four assists in three games, Eric Soar was an honourable mention for SJHL Defenceman of the Week. In fact, Soar has points in 10 straight games for the Wings.

Yorkton's Brendan Mark took home the weekly award.

In goal, the newest Red Wing Ben Laidlaw was also a runner-up at his position. After going 2–0 and stopping 80 of 84 shots fired his way, Laidlaw made quite an impression on his new teammates. A 45-save performance on January 5 against his former team, the Yorkton Terriers, was one of the highlights of the week for Weyburn.

The Goaltender of the Week went to Flin Flon's Jacob Delorme.

It's interesting to note both of the recognized Red Wings were brought in via trades by GM Tanner McCall at different points this season. The 20-year-old Soar has helped anchor the top defensive pairing for the Wings along with Carson Scheschuk and has been a big contributor at both ends of the ice. The 19-year-old goaltender was recently acquired in the Riley Lamb trade and gives the Wings a nice duo between the pipes.

McCall will be busy this week, with the CJHL Trade Deadline on Thursday, January 10.
