It was 45 years ago this week a group of men from Weyburn shocked a country. In 1972, the Weyburn Molson Canadians men's’ fastball team pulled off an upset, as they beat the defending world and Canadian champion Richmond Hill Dynes 2-0 at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton to become national champions themselves.

Pete Landers pitched the game for the Canadians, who won the game in front of more than 4,000 fans. Others on the Weyburn team included coach Ron Rumball, player/coach Dwight McMillan, Don Anderson, Trevor Bell and Buzz Bent.

Recently, Blair Setford from Mississauga, Ontario, sat down with Landers, and the captain of the Richmond Hill team, Bobby Smith, and listened to the radio broadcast of the game from 1972. The game was aired on CFSL-AM (now AM1190) live from Edmonton, with Jim Laing making the call.

Setford recorded the conversation and put it together in this documentary - Remembering the 1972 Canadian Men’s Fastball Championship.
