The 15U Rush from the Weyburn Volleyball Club didn’t disappoint this past weekend when they went to Regina for the West Nationals. While they didn’t return with any hardware, they finished as the top-ranked team from Saskatchewan.

The Rush opened their weekend Saturday morning when the took the court against the East Kootenay Volleyball Club Avalanche. The Avalanche took the first set 25-6, but the Rush rebounded with a 25-9 win. In the third set, the Avalanche came out on top, winning 15-11.

The second game of the round robin for the Rush was against the Selkirk Royals. The Royals took the match in two straight sets, winning 25-23 and 25-19. The third game Saturday for the Rush was against the Calgary Dinos. The Dinos took that game 25-9, 25-8. The Rush would call it a day at that point, and begin to regroup for the power pool round, which was on Sunday.

Early Sunday morning, the Rush encountered a familiar foe, as they took on the Queen City Volleyball Club Royal Fusion. The Rush took the first set 25-19, and the Fusion the second 25-18. In the third set, the Rush came away with a 15-19 win.

The next game of the power pool round was against the Seaside Surf from South Surrey, BC. The Rush came out strong, taking the first game 25-19 before the Surf rallied back to win the second game 25-16, and the third 15-11.

The Rush closed out the action in the power pool against the Swift Current Junior Sundogs, in a rematch of the Saskatchewan provincials gold medal game. The Rush took the first set 25-18, then continued the strong play to win the second game 25-18. This advanced the Rush to the Tier Two playoffs, where they took on Calgary Canuck Black in the quarterfinals.

Canuck Black took the first set of the game 26-24, as they battled for the edge heading into the second set. There, the Rush rallied back, winning the set 21-25. In the third and deciding set, the Canuck Black picked up the win, topping Weyburn 15-13.
