There is still some time left to nominate someone from Weyburn for the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.

The City of Weyburn has 10 medals to give out in conjunction with the provincial government.

“We're fortunate enough to be provided an opportunity as a municipality through a partnership with the provincial government to provide medals to residents of our community,” City Manager, Matthew Warren said.

Warren explained who qualifies.

“You must be a resident of Saskatchewan, the individual must have made a contribution to Canada, Saskatchewan, or to Weyburn, and be alive on February 6th of 2022, which is the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne,” he said. “So please, if you know of someone that has done something really important to the community, to Canada, or to Saskatchewan, please put their names in.”

Warren said they have received a few applications so far. He brought up the topic of the medals in last night’s meeting of Weyburn City Council.

“We do encourage people to provide applications as soon as possible, so if anyone does know someone who has provided contributions to the area, I really do encourage you to put your application form in.”

Applications are available on the City’s Website. The deadline is October 31st, 2022.
