The friends and family of Howard Schmidt gathered in the Vimy Room of the Weyburn Legion Saturday afternoon. They were there as Schmidt was presented with the French Legion of Honour Medal for his service during World War 2. 

The Canadian and French governments had determined that all Canadians who had helped with the liberation of France for their efforts. Schmidt would receive his medal thanks to the efforts of Ken Turner, who presented the medal to Schmidt during the event Saturday.  

With the induction into the Legion of Honour, the highest honour that the French government can bestow on someone, comes a title in France, as he is a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. The title, though, doesn’t transfer over to Canada.
