It was a busier than normal week for the Weyburn Police Service last week and several of the situations they had to deal with involved vehicles.

At the start of the week officers needed to respond to a reported vehicle versus MEDIchair collision and they were joined by members of other local emergency services.

"On Monday morning officers responded to call where a vehicle collided with a MEDIchair," told Deputy Chief Brent VanDeSype. "The vehicle was attempting a left turn and the MEDIchair was attempting to cross the crosswalk. The individual from the MEDIchair was knocked to the ground and had some minor injuries that were treated by EMS personnel on the scene. Then they were transported to the Weyburn General Hospital just for further examination."

The following day members of the Weyburn Police Service had another traffic-related incident that they had to happened upon.

"This was a traffic stop that officers conducted late Tuesday evening right on the verge of Wednesday morning," VanDeSype explained. "The individual showed signs of impairment and he was tested. The results showed he was over the legal limit for alcohol so he was charged for impaired driving."

The male was released with an upcoming court date set in Weyburn.

On Thursday morning, the Police received a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in a parking lot.

"This was a slow-moving collision where a vehicle was backing up in a parking lot," shared VanDeSype. "They were just unaware and had a partially obstructed view. They ended up bumping the lady and knocking her to the ground. She was okay and the driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for Unsafe Backing."

Then near the end of the week, Police were called to a scene involving a bicycle and a vehicle.

"This was one that reported to our office here on Saturday where a bicyclist was caught running into a car," VanDeSype stated. "It actually turned out to be a parked vehicle. The young cyclist just wasn't paying attention and ended up running right into the back of it. Then he got up and carried on his way. The young male was located later and other than a bruise he was okay."

All in all local officers had to issue four different charges under the Traffic Safety Act last week with 16 other charges being laid for different criminal activity throughout the week.
