The Weyburn Big-Muddy Constituency Association for the Buffalo Party will be holding an informational meeting for the general public on Saturday.

The meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Radville Senior Centre, and party membership is not required for attendance.

"We are preparing for the party's first policy convention and we wanted to consult with the public regarding the party policy," said secretary Collin Keith. "Policy submissions will only be received from members, and, of course, memberships are available for $10 both online and at the door."

Keith said all parties do this when they are changing, modifying, and discussing their policy.

"The Buffalo Party wanted to do politics differently, and as part of a grassroots movement, we want to consult, certainly with our members, but also with our communities," he shared. "So this is us doing it differently, by consulting with the public regarding what's important to them for their communities, and what they would like to see the political parties enacting as far as policy, should they become elected as government."

He said ideally they'd keep it to members only, but they are a relatively new party.

"We're new enough, and unknown enough, and it's unclear enough what we are about, and our membership numbers are not that high, to the point where we could just state members only," he noted.

"The actual policy convention is booked in April, and that is membership and constituency members, association members and board members. So that is where policy is discussed is debated, is finalized, and then it's put into our policy manual."

Interestingly, later on Saturday in Regina the party is holding a leadership debate.

"Our first annual meeting was in November where we established our Constitution, so that's how we govern ourselves internally, how the party elects a leader, how you dispose of a leader, how the constituencies are ran, so this is all the groundwork of forming a party that's fully functional."

He said this meeting is to make the public aware of the opportunity to be involved in the political process.
