The Fire Hall in the Town of  Yellow Grass is getting an expansion to accommodate their increasing fleet vehicles, and the $20,000 Community Fund Grant they received last week from the Weyburn Credit Union will go a long way to help make it happen.

Fire Chief Norm Wall said they've upgraded some equipment, and have outgrown the Fire Hall in its current capacity.

"Now we've got a wideland truck, a rescue truck, and our engine still, plus we have a trailer that we set up for as a tanker type thing, too," he explained. "So we've increased our equipment by quite a bit and we haven't increased the size of our hall. So now we've got  to make ourselves some more room."

Wall said the grant takes off some of the financial pressure as they complete their renovations.

"We're always open for more donations to help us, as when you're doing this, you always see it turns out to be more than what you have figured on," he noted. "We're in good shape but this $20,000 we got from the Credit Union will definitely go a long ways. It's a big part of what we need."

He said a few years ago, the WCU's grant helped them to buy a fire truck.

"It's definitely helpful for us, so we definitely appreciate the support that we get from the town, plus businesses in town, like the Credit Union, that big donation they made to us, and we are definitely very appreciative of it."

Wall added their Fire Department is made up entirely of volunteer firefighters, and they're always recruiting.
