The Weyburn Comprehensive Senior Boys volleyball team was in Swift Current this weekend for the 5A Provincial Volleyball Championships.

According to Coach Cory Olson, the boys found their rhythm in pool play and finished third with a 6-4 record.

The playoffs lined them up with Regina Martin Collegiate. Weyburn started out ahead, winning the first set. However, Regina made some adjustments and came away with the win in the second set, forcing a third. Weyburn ultimately lost the third set 15-13 and Regina Martin Collegiate went on to play in the final.

“There was a lot of parity among the teams this year and basically all games were really tight and it was good competition. We had a talented team, that continually improved throughout the season. We met our goal by making provincials, and finishing fifth in 5a at these championships was an accomplishment.”

Coach Olson noted that several of the senior members will continue their volleyball pursuits in the upcoming club season, playing in the U18 division.
