The Weyburn Theatre Project will be the recipients of one-third of the proceeds from the Fuel Good Day held yesterday at the Prairie Sky Coop gas stations.

"We're trying to raise money to build a new theatre in place of the Soo Theatre in downtown, which we're knocking down," shared board member Ryan Janke. "We are about close to halfway our goal, still a few sponsorship opportunities available, including the title sponsorship and both sponsorships for both of the screens."

Janke said their group is really excited about the support they have already been seeing so far.

"The community has really stepped up. We've raised a pile of money for this and we're going to have that old building knocked down soon and have signs up about what's coming next. And hopefully before too terribly long, we'll have a functioning theatre in Weyburn once again."

He said they are optimistic about the timing of the demolition, adding that after that, they'll be regularly posting progress updates.
