Over 11 thousand head of feeder cattle moved through Saskatchewan Auction Marts last week, up from 3500 head the week before.

Provincial Cattle Specialist Fonda Frotts says feeder steer prices were mixed across all weight categories.

"Prices ranged from $310.50 per cwt for the 300-400lb weight category to $229.06 per cwt for the 900+lb weight category. The largest price increase was seen in the 500-600lb weight category, with prices improving $2.25 per cwt from the previous week to end the week averaging $271.25 per cwt. The largest drop was $3.93 per cwt for the 400-500lb category, which ended the week averaging $291.57 per cwt. Average weekly prices for Saskatchewan’s feeder heifers were lower than the previous week in 
each of the limited weight categories reported. Prices ranged from $227.93 per cwt for the 600-700lb weight category to $221.50 per cwt for the 800+lb weight category. The largest price decrease was seen in the 600-700lb weight category, with prices down $3.24 per cwt to end the week averaging $227.93 per cwt."

She says with the pasture conditions starting to decline we did see more animals coming to town.

According to the weekly cattle marketing report feeder heifer prices were lower than the previous week in each of the limited weight categories.

Prices ranged from $227.93 per cwt for the 600-700lb weight category to $221.50 per cwt for the 800+lb weight category. The largest price decrease was seen in the 600-700lb weight category, with prices down $3.24 per cwt to end the week averaging $227.93 per cwt. 

The slaughter cow price also saw a drop last week with the price of D2 slaughter cows was down $2.05 per cwt from the previous week to average $104.25 per cwt. The price of D3 slaughter cows had a decrease of $3.52 per cwt to average $90.36 per cwt.
