The Weyburn Comprehensive School Senior Boys' volleyball team was in Regina over the weekend, playing in a 16-team tournament hosted by Winston Knoll.

The team had some highs and lows that had them finish with a 3-2 record at the end of pool play.

They got on a hot streak in the playoffs, defeating Saskatoon St.Joes, Saskatoon Bethlehem, and the host team Winston Knoll, all in two sets. This lined them up against Martin Collegiate in the gold medal game. The boys played against them in pool play and lost in a split, so a rematch was in order. The boys lost two close sets 25-22 and 25-21 in the final.

“The boys got in a great rhythm on Saturday, but by the time the final had come, they had already played 5 matches to Martin’s 3 that day," Coach Cory Olson said. "They started to run out of gas against the fresher Martin team, but they battled hard and it was still an exciting final. They definitely showed this weekend that they can compete with the top 5A teams in the province.”

The next action for the Eagles is another 16-team tournament in Moose jaw this weekend.
