A classic 90s movie will be hitting the stage at the Cugnet Centre this May. The Senior Musical at Weyburn Comprehensive School this spring will be, 'The Wedding Singer'.

Band Teacher Brayden Jensen said the characters and storyline are similar to the Adam Sandler movie, but the music is entirely original to the Broadway production.

"I spent a lot of time this year looking through musicals, and this one seemed like the most fun," he noted.

Auditions are being held next Monday through Wednesday, February 6th through 8th, with the goal to have scripts in hand prior to the February break (February 20th to 24th).

"After that, we'll go hard with some rehearsals and work on the vocals and lines and that sort of thing," Jensen shared.

He said while there are about 10 main characters in the musical, they hope to have as many students as possible involved.

"If there are lots of students at the auditions, there's a potential to do a double cast. But there are so many extras with little singing parts and speaking parts and that sort of thing. So we're definitely in need of a lot of students to be involved."

"I'm really excited to start working with all the high school students."

Tickets will go on sale in April, and the performances will run from May 23rd to 28th, 2023.
