After 14 draws, and dozens of games, a provincial Mixed Doubles Champion was crowned at the Weyburn Curling Rink Sunday afternoon. The Bukurak rink will be representing Saskatchewan at the national championships later this month.

The Bukaruks beat the Kleiters in the championship game Sunday afternoon by a final score of 7-6. The winners would score four points in the final two ends of the game, including stealing two in the 8th end to finish the comeback win.

The eventual winners had finished the round robin with a record of 2-3, but would pull out all the stops in the playoffs. They first played a tiebreak against the rink of Kesslering/Drew, winning 7-4, to earn a spot in the playoffs. Then, they picked up a win over the Lamontagnes in the first round of the playoffs, then followed it up with a 5-4 win over the Ackermans in the second round. The win would lead to a semifinal match-up against the Hersikorn/Laycock team in the semifinals, which would result in a 5-4 victory to advance to the finals.

Their opponents in the championship game, the Kleiters, went through the round-robin with a perfect record, and had a bye into the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals they would beat the Springers 6-5, then topped the rink of Kalthoff/Theven 8-2 in the semi-finals. The loss in the gold medal game would be their only one in the entire tournament.

The Bukaruk rink will now be off to Sudbury from March 21st to 26th for the national championships, with a berth in the world championships in Korea on the line.
