January 10th is the annual roster deadline for junior hockey and, in the days leading up to it, traditionally sees a lot of movement between teams not just within the SJHL, but across the country.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings announced a pair of moves ahead of the deadline, with defenseman Sam Boldt going to the Dauphin Kings of the MJHL in return for a player development fee. Then, just before noon, the Wings announced forward Ethan Whillans had been traded to the Niverville Nighthawks of the MJHL in exchange for a player development fee and future considerations.

The deadline itself is at 12:00, but the announcements of the various roster moves happen after that time, as in some cases it is registered with the CJHL and the SJHL before the deadline, but the players affected may not have been told of the trade yet. This means more deals could be announced as the day goes on.

Late yesterday, the Flin Flon Bombers and the Melville Millionaires closed out what is perhaps one of the biggest deals ahead of the deadline. It was announced that Jaxon Martens of the Bombers would be going to the Millionaires in exchange for forward Zach Cain. The deal also has conditional draft picks and future considerations tied to the deal.

The Nipawin Hawks also announced the acquisition of defenseman James Bohn. He has spent time with the Spruce Grove Saints of the AJHL and the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL so far this season.

Another deal announced ahead of the deadline was between the Kindersley Klippers and the Melfort Mustangs. The Klippers acquired Alex Mack from the Mustangs, who received Wyatt Cook in return.

We will update this article as more transactions are announced.
