Internet scams are becoming increasingly popular throughout Saskatchewan and the Southeast.

Inspector Russ Chartrand with the Weyburn City Police says internet crime reports in our city have been on the rise in the past year alone.

Inspector Chartrand says with advancements in technology, criminals try to take advantage of the technology for their criminal acts.

Currently the police service is warning the public of a threatening email scam where the sender has been contracted to harm the victim unless the victim is prepared to pay a certain amount of money.

There has been 2 cases reported in Weyburn and Inspector Chartrand wants to remind everyone this email is a fraud and should not be taken seriously.
