228 million dollars has been paid out to Saskatchewan farmers by hail insurance, according to the Canadian Crop Hail Associations final hail report.

The payouts came from close to 21 thousand hail claims this year, almost double what they were last year. Murray Otterson of Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance says the increase in claims came from more frequent hailstorms. Otterson says claims from the hailstorms on July 9th and 10th alone paid out 80 million dollars to farmers in West Central and Southwest Saskatchewan.
