During the COVID lockdowns, many people picked up new hobbies while others began to journey on an entirely new path, which is the case for Shaylene Hamilton, Allison Hamilton, and Elissa Boutin. In September 2020 the three women recognized there was a desperate need to help with the overpopulation of cats. However, the population increase was only one part of the equation, they were also seeing disease, physical malformations, and unfortunately, neglect and abuse issues. What began in helping rescue one colony of cats in Indian Head quickly expanded; the demand for their services was proving to be exponential. They quickly formed a non-profit organization, and the two women eventually teamed up with Angie Werner founder of A+ Animal Rescue in Weyburn. Together the women now serve all of Southern Saskatchewan rescuing dogs, cats, rabbits, and more.

Providing safe rescue and adoption services is an ongoing effort, however, to continue to proceed in offering such services much of their time is also taken up with generating funds through fundraisers. All these women are true champions for our local fur babies as they all volunteer their services.

A+ Animal Rescue is also on the search for more fosters and is always looking for more help.

“For our fosters, they don’t have to buy food or litter, we provide that for them, we all need help we are drowning, there are many ways people can help, reach out to your rescues they will have something for you.”
