The last day the kids swim for free at the outdoor pool of the Weyburn Leisure Centre will be this Friday afternoon, and this Sunday evening is the last $5 family swim. In fact, Sunday is the last day for swimming in the outdoor pool this year.

Program Manager with the City of Weyburn, Tina Clay, said being back to no restrictions once again this year meant they saw an average of between 150 and 300 swimmers per day that they had those free swims.

"We are really happy to have partnered this summer with the Weyburn Agricultural Society, they sponsored the Monday afternoon free swims, and the Rotary Club of Weyburn has sponsored at the Wednesday afternoon free swims, and Fletcher funeral Chapel and Dignity Memorial sponsored the Friday afternoon free swim," shared Clay.

She said this Friday afternoon will be their last sponsored swim, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. While anyone under the age of 18 can get in for free, parents pay the regular rate to swim, or they can pay $2 to watch the swimmers.

"The last day for the outdoor pool is Sunday, August 28th, and then we hope or we plan to open again on Monday, September 12th for the indoor pool," Clay added.

Discover Weyburn spoke with some of the kids who regularly went swimming this summer. Some said they were able to accomplish going on the diving boards, low and high, for the first time this summer thanks to the free opportunities to get some practice. Others said they just loved getting to go swimming with their friends.
