If you've been wanting to be part of something bigger, consider applying to be paty of the Envision Counseling and Support Centre's Board of Directors.

The non-profit organization, which serves the southeast corner of the province through a variety of programming and services for families and individuals, is currently recruiting new board members.

"Right now we are looking to fill some spaces," said Executive Director Lynda Rideout. "We have our annual general meeting in June, but we would be able to take new board members on at any point on our website [HERE]. "There is a page specifically designed for our board members, and within that there is some information on the way that they need to apply. They would fill out an application that's there as well as send a brief cover letter and a copy of their resume."

She said they meet once a month, "with the exception of July and August in the summer and December for the Christmas holidays, and typically our board meetings are roughly about an hour and a half long."

Rideout noted they have sub-committees for finance, policies, and recruitment, which can take more involvement.

"Usually our meetings are in person and either Weyburn or Estevan, but sometimes we hold them virtually as well, especially in the winter when travel is a little sketchy."

She said it's a great opportunity to be part of an organization that works closely with families and individuals throughout the entire southeast.

"We're a unique organization in that way. Not many organizations have more than one location, and we're located in Estevan, Weyburn, Carlyle, and Oxbow. So it's kind of neat to have board members that are scattered throughout the southeast that give their own individual lens to our organization."

Rideout said, "as the whole economic situation within our province as it declines, and the oil industry declines, then we see more people reaching out for support, because the economics really have an impact on families and how people cope [...]. You buy things and then when the economy has a downturn and it's harder to make the payments for all those debts. Then that's when stress in families increases."

She added they are delving into the work of developing their strategic plan, so it is indeed an exciting time to be part of the forward momentum for Envision.
