A concert this Friday evening at the Weyburn Legion will feature Brayden King and his band on their second last show in the 'Bad Night to be a Beer' western Canadian tour.

Opening for King will be 2023 Saskatchewan Country Music Award Nominee, Dan Cugnet.

"He'd reached out and said, 'I'm doing this Bad Night to be a Beer tour, and this is the Weyburn stop, and would you be interested in opening?', and I said I'd absolutely love to," Cugnet told. "It was great of him and kind of him to think of us."

He said they were able to secure as sponsors Golden West Radio, South Country Equipment, Panther Drilling, ALLCHEM, and Pumpjacks Saloon and Steakhouse.

"Hopefully we'll fill the Legion, and make it a terrific stop for him on his tour, and of course, he's coming off of the Idol experience, which is an amazing thing," he said.

"He's a great young guy and we didn't know each other but got to connect and chat a little bit at the Young Fellows Centennial last year, which was awesome for both of us to be a part of. So I just love the opportunity to make a night of music with him and his guys."

Cugnet said his band is comprised of local talent.

"I've been really lucky to have played with some different people this last year, and to have some steady players now," he shared. "So Dion Hrynewich, who is the vice principal at the Comp, is just a great guy. Didn't know each other at all, and that was, again, at the Young Fellows Centennial last year, because he was playing the Cajón for Brayden and we just chatted there. Dion's just great on the drums. I think he used to play a lot more too, and COVID kind of brought him back into it, and that's what brought me back into it, just having time and needing a hobby."

Todd Milleker is on bass guitar.

"Todd's played with tons of different bands and in groups over the years, and is about as steady of a bass player as you can find," he commented.

"Morgan Turk, who's actually nominated for guitarist of the year at the SCMA is who is in Forget, and Morgan is a music teacher and just a lovely guy too. He just rips, you know, like, so I've got these really steady, terrific players."

"It's kind of like 'surround yourself with people that are smarter than you', and I definitely am probably the worst musician in the band, so it's great that I've got these great players," he added.

Tickets and tables are available on eventbrite HERE. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
