The Weyburn Beavers took to the road for the last time before their belated home opener Sunday afternoon, heading to Moose Jaw where they played the Miller Express for the third time in a week. The Beavers would put up eight runs in the final three innings, but couldn’t close the gap in the ninth, falling 11-10 for their fourth road loss in a row.

Weyburn had taken the lead in the third inning when Nolan Machibroda drove in a run with a single, and then Cale Yuzdepski took advantage of an error to score right after that.

From there, the Miller Express would jump out into the lead, building up a 6-2 lead heading into the seventh inning.

The seventh would see the Beavers retake the lead thanks to the bats of Travis Moore and Machibroda.

Moore hit a bases-clearing double with two outs to make it a 6-5 game, then, two batters later, Machibroda hit a double of his own that cashed in Moore and Ryan Dauphinee to make it 7-6.

In the bottom half of the seventh, Moose Jaw regained the lead, adding two runs to make it 8-7. Weyburn wasn’t done, though.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Beavers added one more run, with Alameda’s Tyren Dorrance getting on base, and cashing in Koby Kropf.

Heading into the Moose Jaw half of the eighth, the score was even at 8-8, when Moose Jaw added three more runs off of reliever Matthew Armendariz to make it 11-8.

With one last chance to take the lead, the Beavers came out swinging in the top of the ninth.

The Beavers got the bases loaded, and then a single from Caelen Dalman scored Dauphinee to make it 11-9. Then, Dorrance added another RBI to make it 11-10.

Moose Jaw pitcher Jesse Scholtz shut the door, though, striking out Konner McLellin to finish the game off.

The Beavers will now get set for their home opener against the Swift Current 57s Monday night. The original home opener was rained out on May 27th, and no makeup date for that game has been set as of yet.

The first pitch at Tom Laing Park tonight is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
