The University of Saskatchewan’s Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence at Clavet will bring all aspects of beef cattle research together in one place.

Beef Economist Kathy Larson says the Western Beef Development Centre will be part of that new facility:

"As of April 1, 2018 we are going to become part of the University of Saskatchewan and relocate all of our cattle to a new facility near Clavet," she said.

The move means this is the last year for the Summer Field Day at the Western Beef Termuende Research Farm at Lanigan.

This year’s field day Moving Research into a New Corral is set for Tuesday June 20th.

Larson talked about the significance of the day.

"We'll have presentations on projects with the students on her swath-grazing and cutting at different stages of maturity, she said. "We'll have a presenter from the (USA) by the name of Chip Hines, he is a retired Colorado rancher, so he will come talk about managing for efficiency on your operation. Then, we are going to have a presentation by Dr. Bart Lardner."

The new facility will bring all aspects of beef cattle research together in one place.

Recently the federal government announced it will contribute almost $4.5 million dollars to build the $37.5 million-dollar facility.
