Wheat Conference

Jim Downey the Research and Development Manager for Secan gave the wheat variety presentation and talks about the top 5 wheat varieties grown in Saskatchewan last year:

"CDC at most, that's a midge tolerant wheat, Cardale, AC Carbery, AC Brandon and CDC Plentiful. So Utmost VB producers are looking for midge tolerance there with a little bit stronger straw and I

think some of the newer midge tolerant wheats will be even an improvement for yield and straw strength hopefully. Some of the kinds of wheat are grown for their better Fusarium head blight

resistance like Cardale, Carbury and Brandon and Plentiful."

He notes there are a number of new wheat varieties that show promise and encourages producers to study the options in the new seed guide
