The winners of the 2017 Saskatchewan Agriculture Scholarship Program have been announced.

Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart presented the four scholarships to students across Saskatchewan yesterday.

Amanda Mitchell of Bracken won the top prize a $4000 scholarship for her video which told the story of a piece of bread from seeding right through harvest and beyond.

She says she’s looking forward to studying Agronomy at the UofS.

"I hope to one day be working in a lab researching new varieties," Mitchell said. "I also want to work with farmers to get a better understanding of where seed varieties need to be improved. This scholarship is going to help me and I'm hoping to get my master's degree after I get my degree in Agronomy."

Amanda plans to study Agronomy at the U of S and then plans to work towards her Masters; with the goal of becoming a research scientist working on developing and improving new seed varieties.

Amanda went onto to speak about her busy day in Regina on Monday.

"We went on a tour of the legislature," she said. "Then we had our scholarship ceremony, we had lunch with our local MLA's and another representative from the government. Then Mr. Stewart introduced us into the house as part of the speaker's gallery and that was awesome."

Runner-up scholarships of $2000 went to Brayden Fraser of Churchbridge, Rachel Enns of Osler and Dena Lamb of Regina.
