Some key women in the ag sector were in Maple Creek for the 2nd Annual Celebrating Rural Ranch Women event.

Jodie Griffin is the Saskatchewan Co-ordinator for the Western Livestock Price Insurance Program.

She says the program enables livestock producers to protect themselves against unexpected price declines, by allowing them to purchase insurance coverage:

"The last 2 falls the calf program has been in a payout position and in those two years the calf program specifically that program has paid out over $11.5 million," Griffin said. "The feeder program and the fed program they too have been

paying out the feeder program has paid out over $630,000 and the fed program has been paying out over $80,000."

Producers can purchase price insurance options for their calves, fed cattle, feeder cattle and hogs.

The WLPIP program is available through Saskatchewan Crop Insurance.
