Communithon has helped community agencies in Weyburn and the surrounding area for over 40 years by raising funds and awareness leading up to and during the annual live televised event.

During this community fundraiser for local non-profits, performers from the area come out to the Legion hall to showcase their talents as well as to help raise as much money as possible for the chosen community agencies.

Communithon is truly driven by the passionate volunteers from our community, support from local businesses, and assistance from the representatives of the Community Agencies.

Hundreds of volunteer hours are put into the planning and hosting of Communithon every year and now the Communithon board is looking for more people to help them with the planning and execution of the annual event that is set to take place on Friday, October 29th.

"We're always looking for volunteers and members to join the board," said Korryn Kubashek, Committee Chair of Communithon. "It's quite a fun board to be on and you make a lot of relationships and friendships along the way. It has been a lot of the same people over the years and we'd love to bring in some new members."

Every year, donations from the community donated to Communithon are then allocated back to the Community Agencies, and the programs and services they provide to local families.

United Way Regina and the Weyburn Communithon Committee have approved 11 Community Agencies to receive funding from the 2021 Communithon.

These Community Agencies provide valuable programs and services in Weyburn and the surrounding area.

The Community Agencies receiving support through the 2021 Communication are:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn

  • Canadian Mental Health Association

  • Canadian Red Cross

  • Community Low Income Centre

  • CNIB Foundation

  • Envision Counselling and Support Centre

  • Inclusion Weyburn

  • Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan

  • Weyburn Care-a-Van

  • Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary

  • Weyburn Youth Centre

The annual Communithon’s goal is to help raise funds for these agencies and support their invaluable work in our community.

The Communithon committee is currently in the planning stages for the 2021 Communithon, which will tentatively be held at the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, October 29th.

This year they will be holding two different 50/50 fundraisers as well.

"Our first raffle has started already and the draw will be on August 16th as our kick-off to Communithon," Kubashek shared. "Then our second raffle will be August 17th till October 29th where we will draw the winning number live during Communithon. So we're hoping to sell out of both of those raffle tickets to be able to raise lots of funds for the agencies."

Tickets are three for $10 and in the case that all tickets are sold the winner would take home $2500. But if all the tickets aren’t sold the winner will take home 50% of the total tickets sold.

There are many great ways that community members can volunteer for Communithon.
