An RCMP officer from the Swift Current detachment is facing multiple charges, including two counts of operating a motor vehicle while impaired, after two separate off-duty incidents on two consecutive days.

“I understand hearing about incidents like this is very concerning to the public,” said Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Commanding Officer. “I too share these concerns. These are not the standards we hold our police officers and employees to. The Saskatchewan RCMP will ensure these matters are thoroughly investigated.”

The Swift Current Rural RCMP arrested Kevin Granrude near Waldeck Tuesday night after a complaint about an impaired driver. He was held overnight and released Wednesday morning on conditions. He was also given an indefinite driver’s license suspension.

Wednesday afternoon, a call about an erratic driver on the TransCanada had the Swift Current Rural RCMP stopping a vehicle near Rush Lake. After the driver of the vehicle was said to have failed a roadside screening, Granrude was again arrested and placed into custody.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, the RCMP confirmed Granrude was not on duty at the time of either incident, and he was not in a police vehicle either time. The vehicles involved in both incidents were impounded.

The second incident remains under investigation with additional charges pending. Granrude appeared in provincial court in Swift Current via phone on Thursday, with his next court appearance set for August 18th.

In addition to the criminal investigation, Granrude, who has been a constable with the RCMP for 15 years, and was a member of the Swift Current Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan, is the subject of an RCMP Code of Conduct investigation. He is currently suspended with pay during the process, which includes reviewing all available disciplinary measures.
