It's Culture Week in Weyburn next week, with a variety of events being next Friday, Saturday and Sunday all throughout Weyburn.

"This is the 10th year of our celebrating culture, and it should be celebrated," said Arts and Cultural Director with the City of Weyburn, Alice Neufeld. "Every community does their own thing, and it's basically a celebration of art, so in that sense it's similar, but each community is unique."

"It's basically to provide awareness of the recognition of culture, it being as important as anything else, so it's a week for us to shine and for people to be aware of some of the things that they can participate in," she explained.

Neufeld explained there will be a variety of activities happening around the city, from workshops in the elementary schools, to food and entertainment and co-creative projects and demonstrations.

"There's a chance to check out how to do wheel-throwing, not exactly participate in it, but actually watch the demonstration, as well as carving demonstration and henna tattoo," she shared. "There'll be ethnic food available, so just a wide range. We're going to have some entertainment on the stage."

Mayor Marcel Roy signed the Culture Week proclamation Wednesday afternoon.
