The snowfall in Weyburn didn’t begin until early Wednesday morning, but for much of southern Saskatchewan, it began Tuesday afternoon and evening. A system pushing up from the northern United States is bringing a substantial amount of snowfall to the region, with a snowfall warning currently in effect for all of southern Saskatchewan south of the Trans Canada Highway.

So far in the Weyburn area, roughly three centimetres, or just over an inch, has fallen. By the time the snow tapers off around noon on Wednesday, another five centimetres could fall in the area.

Highways in the region are showing winter driving conditions exist, according to the province’s Highway Hotline. This includes swirling and drifting snow, icy and slippery sections, and areas where the highway is wet and subject to freezing.
