Exploring what the southeast has to offer, the new Sask Parks ambassador spent Parks Week, July 14 to 20, at Moose Mountain Provincial Park.

Kevin Dunn recently took on the brand new position of ambassador for Saskatchewan Provincial Parks. He said Moose Mountain Provincial Park, which is located about 140 kilometres east of Weyburn along Highway 13, offers visitors a unique experience.

Dunn said first-time visitors will notice what makes the park special when they arrive.

"There's the plains and then you see the hills in the distance and then you're driving into the trees and that's the main thing, there's so many trees in this provincial park. I was so surprised. It was something that I really wanted to get across that this area of the province does have trees and it has a very similar feel to northern Saskatchewan."

He said the experience extends beyond the park with the proximity of Kenosee Village, the lake, golf course, and waterslides.

"It's attached to the Village of Kenosee so there's plenty of places to go for food. There's also the Kenosee Superslides...that is something I've never seen in the province where you have the outdoor super slide attraction. It's perfect for the summertime," said Dunn. "It's something that is very unique to that area and having the lake right beside, Kenosee Lake, there's just so much to do when you're visiting Moose Mountain."

The park also offers an extensive trail system, according to Dunn.

"So, there's not just one, they have multiple hiking trails that are multi-use trails. You can bike, hike, walk," shared Dunn. "The majority of it is backcountry and if you're an adventure seeker and you're looking for an opportunity to explore on the backcountry roads and discover new lakes and do all that kind of camping and all that fun stuff, this is the park to really do that."

Moose Mountain is one of Saskatchewan's first and oldest provincial parks. It has scenic history spots including the stone visitor centre, Cannington Manor, and the Artist's Colony.

Dunn said they held a variety of events at Moose Mountain for Parks Week, including an outdoor movie, and a musical performance by Sask Express.
