City Staff and business people in the community gathered Wednesday morning to speak about issues in the city and the future of Weyburn.

The second ever Chamber Coffee event was the host and they invited Mayor Marcel Roy, City Councillors Jeff Richards and Jeff Chessall, as well as City Manager Matthew Warren. The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce and its members were able to ask questions and discuss ideas or problems with things in the Opportunity City.

Executive Director for the Chamber, Twila Walkeden, said these events are invaluable.

"It's really important because sometimes our individual Chamber members feel like they don't have a voice, specifically with City of Weyburn and municipal issues," she explained. "This gives everyone an opportunity to gather in a discussion setting."

Topics included the future of Weyburn and the plan for growth, as well as infrastructure, roads and other construction projects. A big topic of discussion was also the Weyburn Recreation and Culture Center and the new school that will open along with it.

"I think it's very important and I'm glad to see we had this," Mayor Marcel Roy said. "I would like to see an opportunity to discuss again in the future. It really connects us with the business people and what there wants are, and we are able to explain which direction the city is going in."

Chamber members were able to directly ask questions to City staff and get answers to any issues they have had. All in all, everyone thought it was a positive event.

"We had a really diverse set of questions. I was really pleased with the amount of discussion that took place," Walkeden noted.

"We had some very good discussion and we were able to talk about a lot of stuff that is happening in the city. They gave us some good feedback and will hopefully provide us with more feedback as we move into more planning sessions coming up," Mayor Roy added.

The Chamber is hoping to have these 'Coffee Talks' on a monthly basis with new themes every time.
