The Weyburn Independent Riders took to the streets last weekend for their annual Weyburn Independent Riders Toy Run. This toy run saw the riders venture across Weyburn, collecting toys with two sleighs in tow to fill with toys that would be donated to the Salvation Army.

Ultimately, the riders filled one of their two sleighs and nearly filled their second one as well.

"The leader there of the riders said that the toy number was down a bit, but the monetary donations at the toy drive were up a bit," explained Ronza Reynard, Community Ministries Director for Weyburn and Estevan with the Salvation Army. "That just means I get to go do some shopping for some toys."

The Salvation Army is taking these donations and saving them for Christmas to help provide toys to children who may need it. Reynard says that with the current state of the world and more people out of work, they are expecting they will need more toys this year.

"I do believe that we will have a  larger amount of need come this Christmas," Reynard added. "This year is going to be a little different, depending on how long CERB lasts and with people who are returning to work."

Reynard thanks the community of Weyburn as well, saying that the community is always ready to help when it is needed.

Those who still wish to donate toys can stop by the Salvation Army in Weyburn and deliver them there.
