A public inquest is being held into the death of Geoffrey Morris from August 9th to 13th. Morris, who was 41 years old, was shot during an altercation with the Regina Police Service on May 4th, 2019.

Police had been called to an apartment building in Regina after a call about a disturbance. Upon arriving, a man was holding a woman hostage. During the standoff that ensued, an officer shot Morris.

His family has stated they feel the police could have handled the situation differently, and shooting him wasn’t the option they should have chosen.

Coroner Brent Gough will be leading the inquest, which will be held at the Atlas Hotel in Regina.
