With the Saskatchewan government stating all non-essential businesses in the province need to be closed, one affected industry was hairstylists. Salons were ordered to close their doors, leaving many people wondering what to do when it comes to keeping their hair looking as good as they want it to.

Leena Love is a hairstylist in Weyburn. She recommends a few things for people to do, and some to not do, when it comes to keeping their hair looking its best.

“Don’t go crazy in bleaching it and colouring it and perming it on your own,” Love laughed when asked for the first tip she would recommend for people. “Your hairdresser may have to fix all that when you’re done, and she might not be too happy.”

When it comes to haircuts, she advises against doing anything too technical or fancy yourself. Some of the simple things can be done by yourself, though.

“If your bangs are getting long, you can trim them,” Love says. “Make sure your scissors are sharp, and don’t cut too far into the sides, and always hold it, hold the hair.” She also suggests checking some of the tutorial videos you can find online for other haircutting tips.

With the weather being relatively dry, she also reminds people to use conditioner, as it will help maintain healthy hair.

Love was inspired by being asked about hair advice, and she has created some instructional videos on her Facebook profile. Find the link to part 1 HERE.
