The Weyburn Community Gardens are in full bloom and brimming with plants.

The gardens were originally created as an outreach program by Communities in Bloom as a way to allow people to garden when they may not have been able to before.

"It's a really good way for people who live in apartments or condos to get back to nature and grow some of their own food," said Nancy Styles, chairman of the parks committee. "We started out with only a few boxes, we put it in our budget and as the years have gone by the demand has really grown."

Styles says they have around 44 people planting and tending the plants in the garden.

"We've got a sample of just about everything: Beans, tomatoes, herbs, lettuce, zucchini. And it really looks good, it's been a great year," said Styles.

The committee also irrigates and cuts the grass in the gardens.
