The warmer temperatures have resulted in widespread melting of the snow here in Weyburn. However, thanks to the freeze-thaw cycle, it doesn’t always have a chance to flow away into the storm sewer system.

Todd Bedore is the Superintendent of Public Works with the City of Weyburn. He explained that the efforts to ensure the runoff has somewhere to go other than into puddles on the streets is an ongoing effort.

“With the freeze-thaw cycle this year it has been a little bit of a challenge to clean up that ice, so we have a lot of ice buildup around our catch basins,” Bedore said.

While crews are doing what they can to clear away the ice from the catch basins, they don’t mind if residents help out on their own streets.

“It can be tough, and if it’s too tough, give us a call at the office here,” Bedore offered. Then the staff can add the catch basin to their list of spots to get out to for clearing away the ice.

Another concern raised by many during the spring is the emergence of potholes on the streets. Bedore stated they will be working to mitigate them the best that they can over the course of the spring, and residents can call the office to report those as well.
