Those in attendance tomorrow for the Grand Opening Celebration of the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre will have an opportunity to also partake in Culture Days festivities.

City Curator Rean Lanning said the creative time begins around 10:00 a.m., following the opening ceremonies and speeches by dignitaries.

In previous years, she noted, every participant got a square, but this time it's more like a giant paint by number, as the mural is on a number of 8-foot tall boards.

"It was two years ago now, that we announced this project, we awarded the mural winner of this contest, Jonnae Haupstein, and we are going to take the original design now and turn it into a large interactive community art project," she explained.

The mural project will be taking place in the brand new Weyburn Art Gallery at the Spark Centre.

"So when you come in, you will get a jar of paint that is premixed and numbered, and then you are invited to paint in any of the numbered areas that correspond with your jar of paint on our giant community mural."

"So as long as you stick in the lines, you're good to go," she encouraged. .

The mural will be installed in the spring on the exterior of the building for Kat & Fuel's Tattoo Shop on Second Street at Souris Avenue, facing the empty lot.

"So that's where the mural will eventually make its home."

The community mural isn't the only exciting part of tomorrow's Culture Days Celebrations, though. Click HERE to read about more experiences awaiting Weyburn this Saturday.
