Weyburn was rocked this week with two fatalities resulting from suspected drug overdoses. Both tragedies occurred on Wednesday, January 13th. Then, the very next day, police dealt with another close call, a third overdose. The person, thankfully, survived after officers administered Narcan. Read more on that HERE.

"When we look at what has happened over the 36-hour period there, where we had three overdoses, I think that there may be the possibility that some of the drugs that are on the streets right now are either laced, or there's something going on with them that is wrong," said Weyburn's Police Chief Jamie Blunden.

"So, just a word out there to the people that are addicted and using, to be very, very careful at this point, there is something going on with respect to the drugs and we've just got to be very, very careful of what we're putting into our bodies at this point in time.

"If someone's feeling like using, I think, if you have someone out there that you can call and have a conversation with, I think that's the most important thing," implored Blunden.

"You know, you're not alone. There's family out there, there's friends, and there's people that will come and give you assistance if you don't have family or friends in the City. So, reach out to somebody before you use on your own. That's the important message there."

Blunden pointed to the fact Naloxone was administered several times in the first incident, so it isn't a guaranteed life saver.

"They should have it, but there's a risk with respect to that, as well," he explained. "Knowing that sometimes the Naloxone may not be available, or you might have gone too far with respect to that working, right? So, I think the people that are using have to realize that Naloxone may not be always the be all and end all to bring them back, and so a word of caution when talking about using that as a safeguard."

If you or anyone you know is struggling with addictions, you can find resources available in the community of Weyburn HERE.

Chief Blunden added that next week the Weyburn Police Service will be releasing their three-part drug strategy.
