The Salvation Army in Weyburn is calling their annual back to school supply drive a success. Through the generosity of the community, they were able to provide school supplies for around 60 children.

Jennifer Lorinczy is the community ministries co-ordinator with the Salvation Army in Weyburn. She said the number is up from last year.

“That’s higher than last year,” she explained. “Last year we were sitting at about 36 kids, so we’re up quite a few this year.”

Families who were helped out with the program receive a gift card for school supplies at Superior Office Products, as well as the chance to pick up a few items at the Salvation Army itself.

Lorinczy said the next key event coming up for the Salvation Army will be the FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign in conjunction with local schools. Until then, however, there is a drastic need for many items at the food bank, ranging from school snacks, to canned vegetables, to juices. Items can be donated at the Salvation Army itself on 4th Street, or in the donation boxes located at stores in the community.
