There were five games in the Western Canadian Baseball League Monday, including two played between the Yorkton Cardinals and the Melville MIllioanires in different cities.

The Cardinals picked up just their second win in the afternoon Monday, as they beat the Millionaires 9-5 at Pirie Field in Melville. The Cardinals were led by Trenton Lee’s three RBI, and Matthew Korman and Luke Shekeryk, who had two RBI each in the win. For the Millionaires, Dalton Horner hit his second home run of the season in the losing effort.

After playing the matinee game, the two teams then travelled to Yorkton for the second game of the day, a nightcap at Jubilee Park. This time, it would be the Millionaires who came out swinging, as they picked up a 20-1 victory.

Braeden Dobbs led the way for Melville with four RBI on the night, with Tracy Warren and Marquis Irving driving in three each. The Millionaires did all their scoring with the small ball as well, with no batters hitting a home run.

In Regina, the Red Sox played host to the Medicine Hat Mavericks, who are embarking on their second trip to the East Division. The Red Sox came out swinging and picked up a 16-8 victory over the Mavericks.

Griffin Keller led the way for the Red Sox with a home run and three RBI. Ryan Eastburn also chipped in three RBI for Regina.

Medicine Hat wasn’t without their key performers, as Nolan Rattai finished the game with three RBI as well.

The Lethbridge Bulls made the trip up to Edmonton to take on the Prospects and came out with the victory winning 3-2 in a chilly afternoon affair.

Grant Kerry set the tone early for the Bulls with a two-run home run in the first inning, and the Bulls never looked back.

Taran Oulton had a strong performance on the mound for the Prospects, recording 10 strikeouts in 8 ⅓ innings of work.

The Fort McMurray Giants had already dropped two straight to the Brooks Bombers and were hoping to avoid the sweep when the teams took the field for their game Monday night. The Giants would pick up the win, thanks to five runs in the fourth inning, and two runs in the sixth, as they secured a 10-7 win.

BJ Minarcin hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning for the Giants.

One interesting aspect of the game was the number of pitchers used. No pitcher went for more than four innings in the game, with the Giants sending out five pitchers, and the Bombers six.
