The Weyburn Red Wings had their six-game point streak halted Tuesday night, when they fell 5-2 to the Nipawin Hawks. 

The Wings came out hot to start the game, with a goal just ten minutes into the game. Braden Mellon intercepted a pass, moved it to Erik Olson, who then skated in over the blue line and fired it over the right shoulder of Kristian Stead. After that, the Hawks would dominate the game until late in the third period.

Nipawin responded just under two minutes later, when Daven Smith banked a shot off the boards and off Jake McLennan into the net. Nipawin would then score just before the end of the opening period, as Chad McCartney picked up the puck along a tie up along the boards, skated right into the lost, and put it under McLennan as he sprawled to make the save.

In the second, the Hawks came out firing, as they started the period on the power play. Brett Harasmyuk took a feed from Josh Bly just 28 seconds into the period, and one timed it past McLennan. Nipawin would add to the lead with 4:40 left in the second, as Josh McDougall scored his fourth of the season, once again with a one timer from the right inside hashmarks.

One highlight for the Wings came in the late stages of the second, when Cody Chasse dropped the gloves after being slew-footed by Carter Doerkson of the Hawks. The two dropped the glove for a spirited scrap, with Chasse picking up the win, forcing Doerkson the ice in exhaustion.

The Wings pressed hard in the middle of the third period, and they closed the gap to just two goals when Ben Hiltz netted his second do the season, deflecting a shot from Carson Rose past Stead. Nipawin would re-extend the lead to three goals when Keillan Olson put the puck in to the empty net.
