A familiar hockey league will be back on the ice this winter in southern Saskatchewan.

The popular senior league saw it's season essentially cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

There will be nine teams competing this season, with the first slate of games scheduled for Friday, Nov. 19.

The Moosomin Rangers and Oxbow Huskies have been added this year, while the Kipling Royals are out. The Arcola Kisbey-Combines have been granted a one-year leave of absence.

The remaining teams include the Bienfait Coalers, Carlyle Cougars, Carnduff Red Devils, Midale Mustangs, Redvers Rockets, Wawota Flyers, and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings.

"I think it's a pretty good competitive league," said Ryan Toms, who recently became the new league president. "There's always a few strong teams that can make runs in provincials, and hopefully a balanced league as well."

All player, coaches, and team managers must be double vaccinated. Coaches will also have to wear masks behind the bench.

"Hopefully we can fill the rinks up and get some good fans out for all the games and have a good season, a complete season, and hand out the trophy again this year," Toms said.
