The Weyburn SaskPower cashier office is one of six across the province slated for closure. The move has the provincial NDP criticizing the provincial government.
SaskPower NDP Critic Warren McCall says, "we think this is going to affect the services available to a lot of rural communities and we find it strange that this comes from a government that claims to be the friend of rural Saskatchewan, that claims to be chanting of rural Saskatchewan, but here they are attacking the very services that makes quality of life in rural Saskatchewan better."
The closures in other communities across the province include: Assiniboia, Biggar, Humboldt, Kamsack and Rosthern. Payments can be made at local banks or online, but McCall says it's the face to face interaction that many people, especially seniors expect.
The closures take effect August 31st.
