A huge real estate turnover is set to take place across the prairies.

Don Connick is the Vice-President of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan. He says farmers must find ways of making intergenerational transfers more efficient, "In the past we tended to refinance the farm every generation and I don't believe this can continue. It just costs too much and there's way too much capital that bleeds out."

He says proper planning, and possibly changes to the tax system could prevent the massive loss of capital that usually occurs when a farm is handed down. The average farmer in western Canada is over 50 years old and Connick says a massive transition in farm ownership is looming.
