The Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board are calling a federal judge's ruling a "setback for farmer democracy."

Justice James Russell has dismissed the FCWBs case against the Federal Government.

The group was questioning the legality of the Federal Agriculture Minister's actions leading up to the 2008 CWB Director elections.

Spokesman Stewart Wells says, "it's very disappointing to see the judge side with the Federal Government who argued that we as individual applicants, didn't even have the right to bring this matter before the courts. So that was a real detrimental argument by the government and it was something the judge agreed with."

He says the 12 applicants, which include former CWB Director Wilfred "Butch" Harder, National Farmers Union President Terry Boehm and Wells himself, are discussing the possibility of an appeal.

That decision will be made within the next week to ten days.
