The executive director of the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA) says the entire agriculture sector will benefit from a free trade deal between Canada and the European Union.

Claire Citeau, who was on the ground in Brussels this week, notes the beef sector will be one of the biggest benefactors, with expected incremental benefits of up to $600 million per year.

It appears the CETA agreement will be moving forward after Belgium was able to reach a deal with the holdout region of Wallonia.

Citeau was disappointed with how the negotiations played out.

"Frustrations really related to the fact that they were making demands at the very last minute," she said. "If everybody was doing the same thing it'd be difficult to get any trade deal done."

Citeau notes there are roughly 500 million people in the EU market, adding Canadian companies are looking to get better value for their products.
